Portraits à la Parisienne

Tranquillité à Paris
In The American in Paris Gallery
As you can see, here I've created a completely new style of art. This breakthrough style allows the viewer to also appreciate how an artist sees a work of art during the stages of the painting process. As an artist, I paint with "feeling" and it leads to beauty. Why destroy that beauty that I get to enjoy as an artist when it is already complete? I love this painting! It's so Parisian and is true to my own life experience and inner voice and my voice as an "American in Paris" artist. As I was painting, I was very relaxed, thinking of Paris and the tranquility on Sunday mornings hearing the sounds with cathedrals and the tranquil atmosphere in Paris as Parisian women returning home and slowly opening the front doors of their apartments with baguettes in hand about to have a peaceful Sunday. As artists, we often make the mistake of comparing ourselves to great artists, especially to realists artists who are so phenomenal at what they do! However, this painting is about my own "authenticity". It has nothing to do with the "accuracy," "proportions" and "likeness" of realism. This painting expresses a "feeling" I had as I was making the image come to life. This final image is very tactile and natural "to me". I look at the painting and I see myself. As an artist, being myself is the best gift I can possibly give to the world. I always say: "Be yourself." There's a great lesson in this for all of us...
