A Private Collection of Italian Artists

"The Macchiaoli"

While I've been in Florence, I've acquired small works of art by Italian artists.  So coming up next I will continue this on The Italian School series with an online exhibition that include a collection of works from Italy created by Italian artists from my collection titled: "Gli Italiani" (the Italians). This next online exhibition will showcase a collection in the spirit of Italian artists known as "The Macchiaoli."   The Macchiaioli were a group of revolutionary Italian artists, mostly from Tuscany who revolutionized the history of art.  They rebelled against the confinements and restrictions of the academies and created a new way of creating art.

Learn a little about these great Italian artists, their art movement who rebelled against classicism in Tuscany and who gave birth to what later influenced French Impressionism.  With their ties to the French Impressionists, it is only fitting that we should recognize their contribution with this online exhibit that includes the "next generation" of Macchioli in Florence, Tuscany, and in Italy.

The Macchiaoli movement later was transported to France and where, according to Italians, were the seeds of what was responsible for giving birth to impressionism.  This untitled work of a bohemian Tuscan artist (shown above) is a recent acquisition from my time living in Tuscany and is very much in the style and tradition of the rebellious group Italian artists known as the Macchiaioli.   This page is a just a quick "preview" to see the upcoming show.  These shows take many months, so stay tuned for this exciting online exhibition dedicated to the art of
"The Italian School".
