Many years ago I spent an intense week studying with Bill Brauer in his studio in Vermont.  I consider Brauer an American master.  While I was in his studio, I fell in love with this painting of a nude woman on horseback that he had displayed in his studio. I immediately bought this painting for my own collection.

This painting is titled "Lady Godiva".

The story about Lady Godiva is that she begged her husband Earl Leofric to stop a heavy tax on the people of Coventry. Her husband agreed but only if she rode naked through the town. She cleverly covered herself with her long hair and rode through the streets. According to folklare, the townspeople supposedly stayed indoors and did not look at her but I don't believe that!  How could anyone close their eyes when there's a beautiful woman in the nude riding a horse through your town?!
