An Exhibition of New Works Celebrating the Bold Inner Child

"Girl with Red Hair"
The American in Paris Gallery
In the Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) in Boston, I also fell in love with a Degas in the impressionist Gallery. I am not the type of artist whose goal will ever be to try to copy. Rather, I much prefer looking at a great work of art and creating a version that is true to myself. And that is what I did. I wanted to make a more mature painting than the previous one that was childlike. I was still determined to stay true to my typical bold and "flat" style, so I contrasted my bold black lines with primary yellow to emphasize the genuine feeling of youthful innocence. This time I created a painting that was much more personal to me by including my Can Can painting from the American in Paris Gallery, thereby making this painting truly my own.
Even though I initially took Degas as inspiration, I relied on my raw emotions to paint it as an expressionist work of art, tapping deep into my feelings as the creative source. That's why my completed painting of "Girl with Red Hair" above is a much more mature painting.
I created this new work with thick layers of pure raw, unmixed color because I wanted the viewer to not only enjoy seeing this painting but also to "feel the paint" like I do as the artist.
