Yes, there's no one like "VanGogh". In fact, there are few artist in the history of art who live up to the artist architype quite like VanGogh. He was in a league of his own. He was a minister who went crazy, married a prostitute, and even cut off his ear. He never sold a painting in his lifetime and would not have survived had it now been with some some periodic support from his brother "Theo". Ironically, Theo was an art dealer and could still not persuade art lovers to believe and support his mentally ill brother who was producing what we know know to be the world's most valuable masterpieces. The world was not ready to have a mentally ill artist to be respected as a "valuable". Nonetheless, VanGogh just kept going... Even without support of art collectors and patrons, his brain went the distance of creative light and often plunging into the depths of darkness. Whatever happened to him personally, he still managed to leave the world his greatest gift. The most original paintings that came from the depth of his soul. I had to stop here in a moment of reflection to acknowledge VanGogh. He is a GIANT in the history of art and a hero of heroes.
