Musse'e Picasso

There's no doubt that Matisse is as important influence on me in more ways than one.  For one, not only was he a painter, he was also great designer.  The most important lesson I learned from Matisse was to embrace my creativity with a sense of "play".  An artist has to have the freedom to play like a child and not have limitations on what art can and "should" be.  I saw this painting while I was at the Picasso Museum.  Clearly Matisse didn't let his "childlike" painting stop him embracing his inner child.  I love that about Matisse!  As artists, sometime we fall into the trap of trying to live up to a certain standard of painting like other artists.   Matisse did not do that.  Matisse taught me that it was "okay" to paint like a child.
