A Private Collection of Italian Artists

While I've been in Florence, I've also acquired small works of art by Italian artists.  So coming up next I will continue this Italian School series with an online exhibition that include a collection of works from Italy created by Italian artists from my collection titled: "Gli Italiani" (the Italians). This small collection is in the spirit of Italian artist known as "The Macchiaoli."  So stay tuned!  In the meantime, learn a little about these great Italian artists who gave birth to the French Impressionists.

"The Macchiaoli"

The Macchiaioli were a group of revolutionary Italian artists from Tuscany who revolutionized the history of art.  They rebelled against the confinements and restrictions of the academies and created a new way of creating art.  This movement later was transported to France and where, according to Italians, were the seeds of what was responsible for giving birth to impressionism.  This untitled work a (shown above) of a bohemian Tuscan artist is a recent acquisition from my time living in Tuscany and is very much in the style and tradition of the rebellious group Italian artists known as the Macchiaioli.   

This is a just a quick "preview" to see the upcoming show.  These shows take many months, so stay tuned for this exciting online exhibition dedicated to the art of Florence and "The Italian School".
