NIMES AND THE CLASSICAL
6 The Age of The Gods

One of the things I find so fascinating about Nimes is that The Age of the Gods continues be alive and well. As an artist, I particularly love that these mythological legends continue to provide lessons for us mere mortals about the importance about getting along and living happily with love in our hearts without complications instead of acting out of our emotional insecurities, such as jealousy, envy, and hate... Here on earth, these themes from the heavens never grow old... Now more then ever, that's why I am committed to creating a world filled with love, art, & beauty!!!
A Brief Story of Cupid
Cupid's name actually comes from the Latin word "cupido" for desire. In the Roman tradition of mythology, Cupid is a child of both Venus, the goddess of love, and Mercury "a divine god who comes with a message for all us mortals". Cupid's mother Venus, who is also the Goddess of Love and Beauty, became so angry and jealous of the beauty of a human named Psyche, that out of rage and jealousy, she sent her child Cupid to punish Psyche. However, upon seeing Psyche's beauty, Cupid fell in love with Psyche and immediately desired her. So Cupid refused to obey his jealous mother! At first Psyche thought Cupid was a "monster", which greatly angered Cupid. Eventually Psyche realized that Cupid's love was authentic so she eventually pleaded with Venus, her rival of love and beauty, to please let her son Cupid marry her. Naturally, since his mother Venus was accustomed to Cupid's constant love and attention, at first the Goddess did not permit this marriage and then went through the many trials and tribulations that most families go through.
