I don't know where this provocative siren-like Goddess came from.  As I started painting, suddenly out of nowhere, this provocative figure appeared with an intense gaze viewing the sea, as if catching the arrival of a long-awaited ship.  This siren painting was not intentional;  I was just trying to create another portrait study.  As an artist, I was shocked to see such an intense-looking siren appearing on my canvas.  At first, I found it so disturbing that I wanted to just wipe the paint off the canvas so that I could start. I often destroy paintings and start over in the creative process but this time I listened to my inner voice telling me not  to destroy this painting because this is what wanted to come out and be expressed as a work of art.  So I honored the "Spirit Gods" and just embraced whatever inspired my creative spirit to create such an intense oil on canvas.  What I find just as fascinating than the subject is the actual direction that each painting is going in.  Every painting is a unique journey; that's why each painting is so different from the previous one.  With painting titled:  "The Siren" I see my creative spirt starting to be more loose, free and "abstract" using patches of color in the style of the French artists Bonnard and Vuillard, yet the subject matter is much more intense.  In fact, instead of French expressionism, this painting is actually much more "German" yet with the theme from Greco Roman mythology.  Interesting. Nonetheless, since this work is part of this series of new paintings, I decided to include it this exhibition.  In Greek and Roman mythology, sirens were mythical creatures who lured sailors to their deaths in dangerous waters.  For me, the theme of "The Siren" is loaded with more questions than answers.  This painting came straight out of my subconscious.  What a gift it is to experience this creative world as a creative artist and human being...
