Live Nude
Two-Hour Study

Studying classical art of the renaissance in Florence gave me the opportunity to do the most challenging of challenges for an artist: nude drawing and painting.  Drawing sessions started with a 30 second sketch to as warm ups.  Then we progressed to one minute, two minutes, five minutes and longer times such as 15 minutes to end up with a more completed drawing. These exercises sharpen your skills quickly because you must just do it without anytime to think and be in your own head... This particular study with a nude model, for example, forced me to get down on the canvas the most essential pose of the model because I only had two hours with her to capture her essence with a paintbrush with oil on a linen canvas. Nonetheless, in the tradition of the renaissance, there is a preliminary drawing underneath to provide the foundation and underlying structure for the painting layer.
