NIMES AND THE CLASSICAL
3 Ancient History and Temple

I've always loved the beauty and rich cultural history of Nimes, France. The town is so ancient that Nimes is sometimes called the ‘French Rome’ because it was founded by the Romans 2,000 years ago. That's why I've chosen this historical temple in Nimes to open this exhibition. I always love paying homage to this most cherished temple in Nimes dating back to ancient Rome known as Maison Carreé.

By standing in front of this classical temple in Nimes dating back to ancient Rome, I'm also opening the pages of my drawing books and displaying from it a work in graphite of a "Little Roman". As you can see, the Little Roman is also standing in front of a classical temple.  It is my way of paying homage to the people of Nimes and their rich cultural history. With this ancient temple alongside my classically-inspired drawing, I am also introducing "The Classical Period" with drawings from the pages of my notebooks as the first theme of this exhibition.
