The Adonis of Pompeii

Work in Progress
The Italian Influence
Ancient Pompeii
This is "work in progress." This classical study is in the tradition that I learned while living and studying Italian art from the renaissance in Firenze. With this particular study, however, I am using the unique art of ancient Pompeii as my inspiration. In addition to my favorite cities in Italy, Venice, Rome, and Firenze, I've also spent a lot of time in the southern Italy, particularly in the coast of Amalfi, Pompeii and Napoli. Some of my favorite paintings from Pompeii and Napoli were from murals in the villas and in museums from the ancient world. I particularly like the work of Alexander the Great from the archeological museum in Napoli. I have taken liberty to exaggerate the eyes of "The Adonis of Pompeii" but notice that I'm painting with expressive strokes in my own expressionist style. The bulging back is bold and the painting is already full of vitality. Once this painting is complete, I will make it available in this category dedicated to the work here in my atelier.
