The Art of Cuisine

The Mexican Table
Meals Inspired by Mexican Cuisine
Since I am dedicating this exhibition to my Mexican mother, we will begin with Mexican cuisine. This is the view of the table setting in my mother's kitchen with her hand-made tablecloth made by Mexican artisans. Much like Mexican culture, the rich and vibrant colors of this tablecloth reflect the spirit of its people. When it comes to real Mexican cuisine, I've always relied on periodic packages of home made tortillas, empanadas, burritos, chicken mole, and even homemade Mexican farmer's cheese brought to her on "the ranch" by neighboring Mexican-American ranchers. I still receive her traditional Mexican dishes several times a year. So, even though I love Mexican food, I often make simple Mexican dishes, such as eggs made with jalapeño and habanero chiles that remind me of Arizona, where my family had a ranch in the Arizona desert. Even though these are simple and humble meals, I try my best to make sure these Mexican-inspired meals taste great and are made with the same care that as my mother does in her own kitchen. In terms of color and composition, I will start with my Mexican inspired breakfast.
