Return to Nature

SEASONS

As the saying goes: "Everyone complains about the weather, but no one does anything about it." I decided that I would do actually do something about the weather by creating this work of art inspired by the dead of winter. Yet the beauty of life continues to be full of life inside. It is my metaphor for life! As I looked out at nature from my window, the trees were completely bare and full of snow. The view from my window is a vague blurry snow white winter scene. Even so, every season of nature has its own unique beauty. As you can see, the blurry view became a great source of inspiration for this still life created this still life of my "Pumpkins in Winter" that I had recently brought home from a local farmer whose life is also dedicated to harvesting and honoring the beauty of nature.

So, instead of complaining about the weather, it was just a matter of changing our perspective. Even though this depiction of nature is very abstract and slightly unfinished I actually really like looking at it that way because it captures how I view a work of art while painting in my studio. Besides, what matters to me is that I did not allow nature’s winter snow stop me from creating a work of art.

In the process, I also discovered a new technique of creating art with my bare hands, drawing over the wet white paint creating the abstract branches of the trees using the tips of my fingers. That was a lot of fun and I really love the effect that came from appreciating the beauty of nature in winter! This winter scene is actually very personal because it was literally created by me instead of my paint brush. Also, I have always been looking for a way of creating a painting that could be displayed in the dark at night and be seen without any artificial lighting.

Without realizing it, this work of art actually accomplished that long time goal of mine. Despite the time of day or night, I am now enjoying seeing this winter scene displayed in my "American in Paris" Gallery. Often I love coming out in total in the middle of the night just to enjoy viewing it. To me, this painting represents not ever letting anything stop us from celebrating nature and the beauty of life!
