Paris Paintings inspired
by my Graphic Designs
Paris has been an endless source of inpiration in my life and in my art. In fact, right now I am creating paintings inspired by my early years in Paris where my French style of art was first established. Back then I was greatly influenced by many French artists such as Matisse, Toulouse-Lautrec, Leger, and others, especially Picasso. As an "American in Paris" artist it was impossible not to be influenced by Picasso. Besides, it's a right of passage to be inspired by the great masters who have come before us... Picasso was no different. Even late in life, he too was greatly influenced by the masters who came before him. In fact, he dedicated much of his later years to creating works inspired by Spanish masters who came before him, such as Valasquez and Goya.
Having lived in France and Spain, it's no wonder that I owe Picasso a great debt for the influence he had on me too. That's why I will also be preparing an entire online exhibit as a tribute to Picasso to show the influence that his work has had in my own work and my life. I will be discussing that in detail in this future online exhibition...
As I am also a graphic designer, my latest works coming out of my studio are paintings inspired by my graphic designs. Above is close up from one my graphic designs. As you can see, this new oil painting was originally created as a graphic work of art inspired by Picasso and my early years in Paris. In that sense, it is "Paris Graphic Design".
So the latest news is that I am currently using my background in graphic design to create new works of art, such as this large oil painting titled: "Geisha Española" that I first created as graphic art and is now an oil on canvas as fine art. I've also documented the creative process showing the preliminary drawing and crayon sketch underpainting on canvas in my art studio before getting to a much more completed oil painting. As you can see, my process is to start with a blank canvas in a frame so I can use my imagination to imagine the completed painting even before I begin the initial sketches... It is now being displayed in the American in Paris Gallery.
