Dance is a great source of joy in my work as an artist and in my life.  So I have chosen this expressive work on paper from my drawing notebooks introducing the theme the art of dance. 

 

This work depicts my sense of joy and sense of humor.  While my sketch is clearly in my own unique style it is also in the tradition of artists from France I admire, such as Toulousse-Lautrec and Matisse. As I sketched I kept smiling thinking that "Life is not a dress rehearsal!" So I address this theme with a sense of irony and humor, depicting a dance teacher and a young dancer. That's why this expressionist work is appropriately titled "The Dress Rehearsal".
