As an expressionist artist, inspiration plays an important role in my process.  In fact, with expressionism I can tap into my raw emotions and complete an expression on canvas in a day, hours, or even in minutes when I'm just enjoying myself.  Classical art doesn't work like that! It's not about "creative energy."  It's not about "inspiration" and relying on "the creative spirit."  It's about having a strategy, "preplanning," and "accuracy."  

Classical art requires very rigorous and disciplined processes that begin with having a solid and accurate drawing, which can take days to perfect the perspective, the shadows and lights, the shading, and especially proportions.  This extensive process of completing a masterful work of art can take weeks, months or even years.  Case in point: Everyone loves to visit Da Vinci's masterpiece in the Louvre in Paris, but what few people know is that the Mona Lisa took Da Vinci eight years to complete his masterpiece.
