NIMES AND THE CLASSICAL

10 Pont Du Gard

One of my favorite things outside of the town of Nimes is to spend a day trip hiking to visit "Pont Du Gard".  This famous historical bridge seen here was used as part of the ancient Roman aqueducts delivering water to the town.  It's just impossible not to be impressed with the engineering feats of ancient Romans being able to use gravity to bring water out of rivers and into their cities and towns with their public water supplies, fountains, and baths. The waters of this river would spill all the way into Nimes not far from a short walk from the Temple of the Goddess Diana shown earlier. Absolutely breathtaking!
